Some crucial points to follow while designing a logo are :
- Choose an appropriate colour for the logo. The colour of the logo goes a long way in establishing the core essence of the brand or product. For example- anything related to plants or vegetarianism goes better with a green based logo than any other colour.
- The logo must be clutter free. Go for minimalistic designs which are easy to zoom in and zoom out without pixelating. Opt for more of straight lines than loops and waves.
- Do not print a lot in the logo. It is not necessary for the logo to have the name of your brand in it. Days are gone where you needed the entire product name on the logo.
- Color scheme of the logo is equally important if you are opting for a multicoloured logo like Google.
- The logo must be designed in a way that it looks the same across social media platforms. For example, Facebook has a square profile picture slot while Twitter and Instagram have a circle display picture slot. Logos must be designed to cater to all of these without getting distorted or pixilated.
- Do not try to cram many details into the logo. It is completely fine to take some details out and keep it at the bare minimum.
- Choose the font that suits your brand or business line. Using Comic Sans font for something serious does not bode well for the logo.
- Take care that the logo must come out perfect in print also. Lines that are too close to each other or loops can cause smudging and ruin the look of the logo on paper.
Logos are intellectual properties and are protected globally under various legislations of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR). Since most logos go on to become trademarks of the businesses, there are strict laws governing them against misuse.
